Hi there! We hope you’re ready for an amazing month at the Bull and Gate because we’ve done our best to make it very hard not to come see these great musicians at Jazz in Kentish Town over the coming weeks. All our regulars will be seeing some very familiar faces! So make sure you’re ready for summer holidays in August and load up on your weekly doses of improvised music.
We’ll also be taking a short break in August and will be back again in September. So please come out despite the sunny weather!
See below for the full details of our listings this month and the links for purchasing tickets. We can’t wait to see you 🙂.
As usual, we’d like to extend a huge thank you for your continued support; we’d be nothing without our audiences, and the musicians really thrive when we manage to fill the room! So tell your friends and family, and share our posts far and wide to help us continue to bring our brand of high-level live creative music to our humble home above the Bull and Gate pub each and every Monday night.
We’ve rebranded so you can now find us on Facebook and Instagram as @jazzinkentishtown; please share and tag us in all of your photos and videos!
P.S. WeGotTicket sales will show as “Sold Out” a couple of hours before doors open at 8pm but please still do come down as there will most likely be tickets available on the door.
Ashley and Kasper x

Dave’s Manington’s Riff Raff is a dynamic ensemble of musicians that features vocalist Brigitte Beraha (Kenny Wheeler, London Jazz Orchestra), pianist Ivo Neame (Phronesis, Marius Neset), saxophonist Tomas Challenger (Foufolah/Red Snapper), guitarist Rob Updegraff (Beth Rowley/Zigaboo Modeliste) and drummer Tim Giles (Iain Ballamy/Art Farmer). The music is intimate and creative, with a delicate interplay forged from many years performing together. Brigitte and Dave also recently received the honour of an Ivors nomination for best Jazz small group composition in 2022.
“Riff Raff mix the leader’s clever composing with a formidable lineup, …and the soundscape embraces a 21st century sax-led cool school sound, raw guitar-fusion, diffident Wayne Shorteresque lyricism, and vocals that showcase Beraha’s eloquent lyrics and inventiveness as a wordless improviser.” The Guardian

‘Beautiful’ BBC Radio 3
‘A set packed with off-centre pleasures and subtle delights.’ MOJO, 4 Stars ****
‘Quietly virtuosic UK vocalist Brigitte Beraha is at her delicately airborne, rhythmically audacious best with her closely entwined Lucid Dreamers band.’ The Guardian, John Fordham
‘Easily one of the best vocals-led jazz achievements so far this year and even more interesting because it is so honest and adventurous.’ Marlbank, 4 Stars ****
‘Best of all Beraha is play-ful: full of fun, and in her band mates, her play pals, she has players who are happy to surrender to play-full approaches to serious living’. Jazzwise, 4 Stars Editor’s Choice ****
‘…Hypnotic, enthralling.. The melding of improvisation, of electronica styled with cohesive and gelling jazz sees these Lucid Dreamers do more than blink, they shimmer with style and investigation, and in Blink they capture the attention of the listener expertly.’ Liverpool Sound and Vision
‘Exceptional recording.’ Peter Quinn, Jazzwise * * * *
‘Entrancing and very beautiful’ Alison Bentley, LondonJazzNews
‘Lucid Dreamers is forceful, sustained aural theatre, and it demands nothing but your dreams in action in return. Utterly stunning.’ Liverpool Sound and Vision * * * *
‘Something of a new departure for her, the small, electronically enhanced unit offering unique challenges which pay-off surprisingly well. Her lissom vocals frequently overlaid by looping, creating a mesmeric effect […] with ethereal, emotionally imbued soundscapes.’ Jazz Journal
‘I’m a big fan of the vocalist Brigitte Beraha. She has a unique, exploratory, explosive, fascinating voice’. Jez Nelson, Somethin’ Else
